Aggressive IRD tactics

2458

The IRD are being particularly aggressive in the tactics they are using at present. They are making phone calls to people personally rather than to their tax agents (accountants), and can be very intimidating.

Some of the methods the IRD have been employing include: asking people complicated tax questions, which can get them into trouble if they answer incorrectly; chasing people for tax returns before they are due; and trying to trick people into taking personal responsibility for company debts.

While all of this can be frightening (and of course that’s what it’s designed to be), don’t be intimidated. You don’t need to answer any of their questions – instead, refer them to us.

So, if you are behind in your tax payments or if the IRD contacts you personally, remember GRA are here to help. Don’t be pushed around by a phone call from an IRD employee – tell them you have an accountant and to contact GRA directly. (And if you don’t have an accountant, contact us and find out how we can help.)

If you have any concerns at all, please let us know by contacting your Client Services Manager, calling the GRA office on (09) 522 7955, emailing [email protected], or by filling out our online contact form
